What About You? (Sunday Quick Questions #33)

We answer ‘quick questions’ here on I Tripped Over a Stone on Sundays.

Why?

Because… I blog. I get sick of me. I want to hear from you!

Don’t think, just answer!

  1. Name the last event you attended when you brought a gift? What was the gift
  2. If you found a paper bag filled with $10,000 sitting by a dumpster, would you keep it or turn it into the police? Why or why not?
  3. Name a ‘banned book’ (click here for a list of 25 banned classics) you have wanted to read but still, have not.

  1. A birthday party for a 2-year-old! A huge box with 7 bouncy balls in it.
  2. I’d keep that cash, and I’d never tell a soul!!! Why? Because it was in a paper bag by a dumpster! Turn it in? No. It would sit in an evidence locker and grow old.
  3. Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence.

  1. 1. I bought a jigsaw of the lovely Yorkshire tearooms next to where we were staying on holiday. This is for my friend’s birthday in October, she loves jigsaws and I usually forget her birthday!
    2. Hand the moneuy in, I/would feel guilty, or at least worry the police would track the money down.
    3. I have read quite a few of these – handy hint – you have to read a good way through Lady Chatterly to get to the naughty bits! I would like to read The Colour Purple.

    1. Oh wow! The tea rooms!?!? I need a coffee table book on that! I’m sure your friend will be very happy with her gift it sounds magical! You are a stand up gal! Return the money…😉 I appreciate the hint, get to the middle for the naughty bits! 😂🤣😂 Thanks Janet!!! 😊💜💫

  2. 1. In about 3 hours’ time I shall be in a Turkish restaurant for my mum’s birthday. I’ve got her a whole collection of books by a Si-Fi writer whose name I can’t pronounce or spell, for her present. I got the idea from a short list of things she’d like to have. Luckily I got them from Amazon because if I had to go into a bookshop to get them I would have looked stupid not being able to say what it was I was looking for.
    2. Another interesting question. My first thought was what would I be doing in a dumpster in the first place – that’s a waist bin in English English I think? After pondering on reasons to be inside a dumpster – there has to be a song here somewhere – I decided to hang on to the money for a few weeks to see if there was anything in the local paper about some honest person losing it. If that didn’t happen I’d give the money to an animal charity using a false name
    3. I’m in trouble with this one. I’ve never considered the concept of banned books before. When checking your list of banned books I realized I’d heard of most titles/authors and the books are all classics. It seems insane that any of them got banned. Then I started thinking about a book my dad and mum wrote together and, for sure, from what they’ve told me about it maybe their one would be banned in most countries. Being a musician, instead of books you got me onto songs that have been banned. I rate the old 1960’s band The Who. I was amazed that that their song ‘My Generation’ ever got banned because of Roger Daltrey’s stutter when singing “Why don’t you all f-fade away” might offend people ‘afflicted’ with the condition. Weird.

    1. It has been so many years since I attended any kind of party gift giving or otherwise, I have no idea.
I guess I’m too honest. I would turn it in. I believe after 30 days it would be mine if no one claims it.
I had NO idea those titles have been banned. Surely not here in the USA.
I need to move out from under this rock. I’m missing so much

      1. Hi Margie! You got to go party lady! Better yet, throw your own and register for gifts!😉 I wonder, after 30 days if you’d get to keep more than a $50. Finders fee? Hmmmmm… I’d say keep! Hahaha. Yes! Those books were all banned in the USA! All of them. Crazy, huh? Thanks Margie! 😊💜💫

    2. George! This was a very informative quick questions day! Hurray! Enjoy the Turkish restaurant. Yummo. The set of books, score for Mum! Love the 10,000. donation move! False name even! Have you done this before? (Just kidding!) Brilliant! Yes, the banned books, many classics, and there are many current published books too… I can even count how many. Of course there is a library in the states, a Harvard library that has a floor dedicated to banned books. 🙄 Under lock and key and you have to know how to get in… secret hand shake??? I have no idea! I love that you looked up banned music! That’ll need to be on a future Sunday Quick Questions for us! It is so interesting what was deemed inappropriate and why! I do think you have a possible song or two in all this. (I’d never thought The Who COULD get banned but they did!) Let me know if you go for it! 😊💫

            1. I bet you got it. It’s about 4:30 AM for me right now… I’m deciding to listen and wake my hubby up… ok! He’s awake and I loved that song! I got the subtle humor, the light sarcasm… this would be a great theme song for an 80s business man or woman trying to look like a consummate professional in the real world. BUT for the monster under the bed… and ants in awkward places! (Thank your grandma!) You nailed this song! I really liked it! 😊

  3. 1. Can’t remember the last event if would have been that long ago so I certainly can’t remember the gift 😂
    2. It would certainly be tempting to keep it but I think my conscious would drive me crazy over it so I’d hand it in. I’d be wondering where it came from, figuring it for dirty money being in a paper bag. Knowing my luck it would probably be counterfeit and I’d be buying all crap with it only to be arrested! But don’t let that put you off keeping it, Kim 😉
    3. Serious, these have been banned in the US? That’s insane, they feature in our curriculum! No.3 To Kill A Mockingbird, we had that at school. I’d probably have to go for no.19, For Whom The Bell Tolls by Hemingway, as it’s one of those ‘read before you die’ kind of books that I’ve not read yet.

    1. You, need a serious par-tay! 🤣😂🤣 I might as well keep laughing… counterfeit! Ok! I won’t let your answer deter me from my chosen criminal act of keeping the cash, spending it, and never revealing the dark truth!!! You and your counterfeit money should be ashamed of yourselves!😂🤣😂🤣 That has me rolling! Yes! The banned books! So many banned books in the USA! They are not currently banned… there is a current list, google it. The UK has a long and interesting list of banned books too. Insanity! Ding-dong! 😊💜💫

  4. 1. I can’t remember the last event I attended that required a gift, even last Christmas I spent the whole day in bed! (crazy exciting around here! 🙂 )

    2. Years ago I found an envelop filled with money lying on the street while I was out walking my dog. Money was SO tight and for a few moments I wondered if it was a gift from God. But, I called the police and they showed up and took the money. About two years later I received a phone call to come pick it up as no one claimed it! Such a blessing. 🙂

    3. Reading through the list of 25 classic banned books, I would read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley………..I started it a few years ago, now, with it being Halloweeen season, it would be a great time to pick it up again.

Thank you Kim, as always for your through provoking questions! Hope you are not working too hard!

    1. You are the third person who can’t remember a party with gifts! We need a big party! I was in bed last Christmas too… bummer. That money WAS a gift and it came back to you! I am still keeping the cash, I’m not changing my mind! Ha! Ooohhhh…. Frankenstein! Yes, I picked that up from a free site on an APP. Now I’ve had a turn around in APPS, lots of my free ones are gone… I had a Frankenstein and it was such a page turner! I’ve got to find that one again! Yay! Thanks for bringing that title up! I love your answers! Thanks, my friend? Wendi, YOU ROCK!😉🎉🎉🎉

      1. Yes! we need to have a party! How much fun would that be if we all felt only 1/2 like crap!
That totally sucks you were also in bed last Christmas……….here is to a better one this year!

        Wishing you a day filled with smiles 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 :

  5. 1. I went to a wedding over the summer and brought a gift. We got the couple a hot air balloon ride with a wine picnic,
    2. I think I would turn it in. I would worry that much cash was stolen, and that the police would mistakenly think I did it.
    3. I have never read Gone With the Wind or watched the movie, but would like to!

    1. Wow! If I ever get married again, you are invited! Cool gift! You know, turning it in is a good idea… it’s definitely the right thing to do. (I’m still keeping it!😉) Gone with the Wind! You will enjoy reading it or watching the movie! I believe the library carries the book and the DVD! Treat yourself to an afternoon of popcorn and a movie! It’s very long, take breaks but definitely get a hold of it. Thanks Lindsay! I always enjoy reading your answers! 😊🎉💫

  6. 1 a birthday breakfast for my father in law, and I gave him a book he wanted. Loved that he wanted a real book with pages made from paper!
    2. I would notify the police i found some money and if someone came looking for some then call me and have them describe how much and what it was in, if that matched I’d give it up. They’d have 30 days to claim it, if they didn’t after that, then it was mine. 😁
    3. I’m surprised, and thrilled to say that I’ve read most of the books on that list, but I haven’t read Clockwork Orange, I think I’d like to.
To Kill A Mockingbird is my favorite book of all time. It changed my life as a child. My father was very prejudiced and I didn’t have those feelings, reading that book helped me feel stronger. Books can change the world.

    1. I love giving books as gifts! I stopped when I realized my (rather expensive) real book gifts were never read by their recipients… paper books are obsolete to the younger generation of gamers and kindle owners! I’m glad your father-in-law wanted a real book. The fun of going to a book store and finding it! I miss the hours I’d spend looking for just the right book in a big old bookstore in downtown Seattle! Awe… nostalgia. Ok, calling the police but hanging onto the money may be a good 💡 idea! It something about the banned books, I know OF them, can drop the titles and author names but I have not really read many, cover to cover! I’ve heard To Kill a Mocking Bird is an absolutely terrific book. (As I hear about most of these classics!) I need to bite the bullet and start a list (or use this one) and get to reading!!! Thanks Wen! 😊💜💜💜 (Clockwork Orange, that’s a great pick.)

      1. Oh my dear, you must watch the movie with Gregory Peck, you will not be disappointed. To Kill A Mockingbird will feed your soul. We have the BEST used book store here, it has a few locations, it’s huge! I can get lost in there for hours…on my good days. It also has all these little collectibles in there, so eclectic, if I was a well person I’d love to work there.

  7. 1. Wedding — a glass box/frame dried flower that had special meaning to the recipient
    2. I found several hundred dollars on the ground once, outside of a busy retail store, and it was during the holidays so at first I was ecstatic (who isn’t short on cash then??) but then instantly felt guilty so I slipped it into a S. Army bucket to assuage my sinful thought of keeping it, LOL. Finding ten grand would be a bit different — I would worry it was tied to something nefarious or that it had trackers on it or something and would definitely turn it in to the police.
    3. The Color Purple. I almost ordered it on Amazon a while back as I started to read the online sample and was drawn in. Then I got distracted (brain fog) and forgot all about it. Thanks for the reminder ❤️❤️🤣
Great post as always, you have the cleverest questions, haha, and BTW I would hope you’d do something really really fun, (and write about it later), with the ten grand you found 🤪🤪

    1. I love the sentimental gift! Thats so cool to do at a wedding. The Salvation Army Bucket?!?!? Oh… well, thats a great way to get rid of some ‘hot’ cash! HA! So, I’ve worked in criminal justice… no trackers were ever attached to money that I was privy to. WHAT if it is just so top secret and I’d get nabbed??? (Still keeping it!) And, Yes… having fun, loads of it before my prison time! Bahahaha. Ooohhh The Color Purple! Yes. That another on my list! Definitely get that book. I’m sure it’ll be wonderful! Thanks so much for your Monday check in! Loved your answers! ~xk.

  8. 1. Oh, jeez, an actual gift? I went to a Christmas party a couple of years ago where we did the “white rhino”* thing and I brought a DVD of “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Oh! A wedding last year that was registered I bought something off the registry. What was it? Something! I think every event should be registered. So easy, and folks get what they really want. Other that, I’m the king of the gift card. So easy, and folks still get what they want!

    2. Turn it in. Ain’t mine.

    3. Oh, this is fascinating! I finally read “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Brave New World” this year. From your list, “In Cold Blood” and “Slaughterhouse Five” are on mine. I’ll go with Vonnegut on this one. Final Answer.

*Or is that “white elephant”? I always forget. 🤔

    1. Hmmmm… the gift card king. I’d absolutely invite you! You are always welcome mr. king. White Rino, White Elephant… potato, french fries… same thing! 😂🤣😂 on your way to turning that money in, stop by, I got something to tell you! Final answer time… you not only read my answer but read two books off the list of classics! Boom! Blew that one outta the park! Kudos for your choices. I remember reading about your book quest and I specifically remember Slaughter House Five being on your list. In Cold Blood, sounds like a series I watch on ID! Who is the author? I gotta look it up! Thanks Tom! Awesome ‘Player Number One!’ I have gotten some really good titles to read from this weeks quick questions! Fun!😊💫

      1. Truman Capote!

But, honestly, my book-reading quest hit a wall after July. I was on a tear! I took a “quick break” like after high school when I took a “quick break” before college. That time it was 15 years before I went back. 😉
