Restless Leg Syndrome Progressing To Elbows? Yes!

I have talked about restless legs a number of times. Unfortunately, over the past few months, I have started experiencing the same symptoms in my elbows. Concerning. Unbelievable. Extremely uncomfortable! I’m in a ‘what next?’ mentality.

So, I’ve done the research, have the medications but even the medications by themselves are not enough. I have added my top 5 recommendations for combatting Restless Legs Syndrome.

#1. Magnesium.

The best type of magnesium for me is in liquid form. Out of many brands I have tried, I find the OmniBlue to suit my needs the best. (Sold on Facebook, I’m sure on other sites as well.)

For more information about magnesium benefits, please read  I Just Want to Walk to the Bathroom.  There are tips on what happens when you start taking magnesium (bathroom sprints) as well as how much to take.

#2. Ferritin. Have your Ferritin levels (iron) checked, the number needs to be over fifty. This test is not included with a regular blood work-up. You need to specifically ask for your ferritin levels (iron) to be ordered by your doctor.

I still struggle with this one, I am anemic and deficient in iron. I will share with you the facts based on what I found out. Please read Hemoglobin and Ferritin … What?

#3. Tonic Water. It contains quinine.

Quinine reduces the urge to move your legs. I drink one glass of tonic with magnesium and cranberry juice in it every day. Keeps me healthy, regular, and reduces restless leg symptoms.

#4. Handheld Massager.

When my legs are acting up, usually in the evening I have this massager ready and beat the heck out of my legs with it. It is in a bin with a blanket and another weighted blanket that I use for restless legs symptoms. At the ready! (I bought mine on Amazon.)

#5. Weighted Blanket.

Currently used to comfort children with autism, this is also being found helpful by those of us who suffer from restless legs. I love mine! It is an 8 lb. blanket that I place over my thighs, I am planning on getting the next size up because it works so well. I would recommend getting a heavier weight too, 10-12 pounds if you can physically move that kind of weight without pain. (I bought mine on Amazon but am thinking about trying eBay, Overstock, or even Walmart, these blankets can be spendy.)

I hope these 5 items will make your list for things that you find helpful with chronic pain as well as Restless Legs Syndrome.
